You may be a work in progress, but you did great on this assignment!  Have a K!  The whole point was that the subject-to-background, near/far look of a photo can be changed by where you stand and what focal length you use.  Nice job, you can really see that curtin "distance" change between pictures.

Color wise, I know you used the on-camera flash, but his color (the most important thing) is pretty much right on.  When you stood close it almost washed him out, and further away it had a bit of trouble lighting him up.  The one in the middle- remember that "range"- the flash seemed to like that range the best.

As for post processing, you don't have to worry about it yet.  The important thing for now is to learn the camera, proper exposure, and composition.  Once you're good at taking "good" pictures, you can then worry about the post processing to make them look even better.  But Basics first.

You did great!  See how the kid stayed the same but the background changed a bunch?  Great examples.  Nice Job!  Have a K for this one too!

Telephoto Compression by wilky22, on Flickr
35 MM (Estimation, Not really sure what the numbers were.)

Telephoto Compression by wilky22, on Flickr
75 MM (Estimation again.)

Telephoto Compression by wilky22, on Flickr
135 MM (Estimation again.)

Is this good? Why does the pictures get lighter and lighter? I used a regular 55 mm lense for the first picture then switched it to a telephoto lense 55 mm - 200 mm, but it was later in the day, so the sun was going down? I'm guessing the metering had something to do with it? Since the lighting is different? I'm not too sure.

There's no EXIF data, so I can't tell about the metering, but I'm sure it had something to do with it.  Nice job on the assignment though!  A little something that you can add to your bag of tricks about manipulating the background in your shots.  Have a K!

I'll for sure add the EXIF data next time. I was just in a rush to post them and while taking these pictures to look. And yeah, I gotta learn how to manipulate them photos! Been checking out some manipulation pictures, they are pretty snazzy! lol

Nice job.  The only problem is that the bottom of the gravestone in the first one is cut off in the last two.  As you can see the background changed significally between shots, which is what we're after, but you didn't back up enough to get the subject the same in all three.

SO, I'll let you try this again.  I know, I'm being picky, but the whole idea is: the-subject-the-same/the-background-different.   You're very close!  You almost got it!

Not sure if these will be OK for Assignment #3, I took the opportunity whilst shooting assignment #2, I could not convince my better half to pose in the cold Smiley

Bad News first (let's get it out of the way).  The assignment was to get your subject the same in all three shots.  You got the sign in the same position, but you didn't back up enough in #2 and #3 to get the same amount of the post.  By the time you got to #3, the bottom half of the post was missing compared to #1.  (Yea, I'm being picky).

Now the Good News.  I'm with your wife!  There's no way I'm gonna ask you go out in that cold and reshoot this!  The whole point was to show you how by just moving yourself and using different focal lengths you can have major impacts on the backgrounds of your pictures.  And boy, did you!  Great examples.  You learned another little Trick for your Photographic Arsenal.  Excellent Job, have a K!

Thanks for the 'K' Doc and sorry for not getting the subject the same in all three, I was concentrating on trying to keep the distance the same between the top of the sign and top of the frame. I was really surprised how far I had to move back in order to keep the subject the same as I did. Great lesson learned - thanks again Smiley
