This is splendid, and portrays your title as well as I could possibly imagine it being portrayed.

I wonder what you might think of desaturating this a tad? And I most certainly hope this doesn't offend, just a thought.

And finally, whoa, those eyes. This is a photograph that will stick in my memory for a while.

You say nothing to offend. The light was very low and warm and I wanted to keep that but some de-saturation would not harm the image.

Beautiful, Ian!

Thanks TC ....

Nice image of a lovely girl.  I would warm it up a bit.

Ok Mr.  lol...  Pick up some throwing rocks and take aim on me lol...

I love the Eyes here!!  and without doubt, its the shot!!

My #1 Nit , the crop...  the line of the wall right, ( Vertical ) big distraction in the frame for me  ..  I just think the crop is to large, I want EYES...I feel a Vertical crop would really enhance this one.  #2 if the crop would remain as this , I think a bit lower, capitalizing on that ( V) even more to direct one to face..  #3..  I think some color adjustments could still pull some brown tones into her skin..

Now, I fall back on you and Al...   I know you both mention the Wild clothe Combos, and that its a part of the culture, so what can ya say, out of your control...  but Stripes in a portrait are a huge no no... Again, I understand, no control...  but stripes really draw attention, and pull a viewer from the face....  and I also understand that clothe could be a draw to an image , to show the wild dress of an area.. I'm  not a vignette user myself , but here I might consider to partially  eliminate the stripes and also pull viewer to that face/ eyes...

Like I told Al in a previous thread, I'm always flipping a coin on B+W Processing vs Color with both of yours  and his images....  and here, I see B+W...  The Girl is a Doll, but all I see is those eyes, that are the Story of this image, the soul..  I think B+W would pull this even more... eliminate all doubt, B+W puts a viewer in those eyes!!

So let me give you an option here... just for arguments sake lol...

Ian,
I first viewed this on my cell phone yesterday, so it was too small to really evaluate.  So today on my monitor I see it in the correct format.  You are so talented in photographing your local people.  She is truly a beauty.  Innocence just pours out of her face.  You have really captured her so well.  That said, I really like Tom's edit.  The tones he used and the very soft vignette really make a statement, too.  Both are wonderful.

Thanks for all the comments and observations, some of which I agree with some I am undecided.
Did a slight recrop and BW to see what I thought although I liked the initial crop I can see what Tom is saying.

Well, I didn’t want to mess with this as I know we approach similar subjects quite differently.  That said, I think you could approach this young lady just about any way you want and it would still be a nice image.  You said you liked the low and warm light… Yup, it really fits with this subject.  The monotones are ok, but I think maintaining some softness to the image is critical… Ok the eyes are key, but that soft light from camera left is just great.  I would usually find that distracting, and clearly if it were sharp and crisp, it would just ruin the shot.  But if we keep it soft I think having that in the negative space is a plus.. so I’m going to deviate from the vertical orientation a bit…  Other than the obvious crop, I did warm it up a bit and raised the midtones… and rather than common vignette, chose to blur the edges to soften the stripes… I don’t do that often.   It is a lovely image and the subject matter trumps everything we have been discussing… Thanks for giving me something to play with…

Part of the fun is how we can all have a different outlook on the same image Al, nice re-work by the way. You know I'm very much a take um fella and with this type of image tend to leave it as seen. Thanks everyone for looking and the suggestions they made me think Smiley Wink Smiley
