Norcal2, that is a nice shot. (I guess finger-crossing worked cause the photo showed up). If you would've posted this in the Closeup forum you would've gotten many compliments.
However, this is the assignment section and overall you did good, but I'm gonna get a little picky on you. If you can repost a crop of this so you get the whole flower with none of it cut off, and darken it just a tad, I'll be more than happy to give you your K.

Thanks Doc. I appreciate that information. By closeup do you mean the Macro photos? I couldn't find the closeup board but I am still trying to catch up on the different links. I can't really fix this rose shot to picture the whole rose as the cutoff is how I took the picture! LOL You have helped a lot. I posted the picture here because it was related to flowers and I guess I didn't think it through but as you noted "finger crossing" did work! Thank you so much.

It's called Table/Closeup: http://photographyatnewenglandmoments.com/index.php?board=20.0(But you can try this assignment again if you want!) (Looks like you could do it with no problem).

I think I'll give it a try now that I have actually read the rules. There are some beautiful flowers here so I'd like to add my WEED : The Thistle (no groaning Doc!):

Groan.... Nice! You got the whole flower this time. Have a K on me. However, though you got the center exposed correctly, the rest of it looks overexposed. If you lighten the shadows a bit and darken the highlights a bunch you get something like this: Don't forget the processing. "Presentation is everything."

Thank you Doc. This gives me something to play with this week. Your improvement looks great. I'll post my results if I can achieve that outcome. Thank you again! Much appreciated.

Thanks Doc. I did notice that my new version is not as smooth and clean as yours so I am going to have to work on it. You really brought the colors out and I really see it on the small back leaves. I saved the last version as a JPEG, does that make a difference? Is there an ideal extension? Thanks for your help.

I probably added a bit more satuation and sharpening than you did, that's all.
Jpeg is fine, and, in fact, in order to post here you need to save it as a jpeg. Unless you're printing larger than 8X10, jpegs are fine. If you're going to print it larger than that then you'd need to keep it the original size (don't resize it, but cropping is ok) and save it as PSD (or Tiff) before printing.

Aha. I will play with those features in the future. Glad to know the Jpeg is ok as I wasn't sure whether to go that way. You've been a great help with making all of this understandable and I'll see you on another photo challenge or struggle I am sure. I am really glad I found this valuable site. Thanks much!

I've tried three different times but doubt I'm there yet. The sun! The wind! I'm tempted to buy one and pose it. Sorry about the one with the free bee being so large. I cropped it and saved it bigger than usual so my 83 year old father could see it had a free bee in it. PS I will crop if one will do with a crop. 1 2 3

"Making a List, checking it twice, gonna find out... etc. etc."
The first one as posted is too small, and there's too much picture- crop it down some. You don't need all that on top. Other than that, nice shot!
The second one... again, way too much picture, not enough flower. But you did get it.
The last one is posted at a nice size, just a little tall. When posting pictures try to see that they fit within a 800X700 box. Good Job on that one though and the only thing you might do is lighten the shadows just a bit.
You get a K for the first and last ones!

Much better! Nice posting size and now we're concentrating on the flower more so it really shows up. As a nit, you might take a just a bit off the top and some off the right side, moving the flower just a bit more off center and up in the picture a bit.

Yes, I like it much better this way. I will try taking off some more as suggested, and I have some other shots of these red flowers I can practice cropping also.

I fixed it for you so it would show up. You need to put it between the "img" tags, and leave off the "%22%20width=%22500%22%20height=%22476" on the end. Check out how to post pictures in the welcome forum for specific flickr posting instructions. Now that we got that out of the way, welcome to the Beginner's Forum and thanks for jumping in here! I'm gonna give you a K for this one. You got the whole flower, it's all in focus, properly exposed, and it looking good! My only nit would be to watch the background in the future- it's a little busy and taking away from the flower. Good Job!

Thanks for the comments Doc. Have just bought the lumix tz7 and have been busy reading tips to compose better pictures so welcome all feedback. I tried using flash which made background black but over exposed flower, any tips?
Thanks again.

Well, Chinn, it soundsl like when you used the flash you were too close. If you use flash, then you need to back up some to get within the flash's range, but zoom in to get close enough to the flower.

That's a nice flower picture! I also know you're working hard (and learning stuff as you go). However, this is one of those that you need to look at the assignment requirements again. You cut off part of the flower, and the whole flower isn't in focus. I know, I'm making you work for those K's but learning to control the shot is important . You almost got it, I have faith in you.

Nice job! Have a K. Both are all in focus and not cut off. They seem just a hair bright to me, especially #1, but you did quite good on these.
